Father’s Day is coming up and you should probably not get him a shirt about outhouses, Unless that's his thing? Might we recommend something tried and true instead?

101 likely and not so likely sources of inspiration Part 5
This list is for any creative types out there who are experiencing a block, be it writer’s block, designer’s block, songwriter’s block whatever. Get inspired. I am going to be putting it up in sections right here and once it’s complete I may give it a more permanent home.
It's time for the final chapter. I hope you enjoyed (and were not too offended by) this list. I will be adding plenty more helpful hints, links, and more in the future so keep coming back.
82. Tattoos. Bad ones and good ones, just be careful when looking at the ones on a person you don’t actually know. Do not stare directly at the cleavage of a guy who looks like he is named Thor.
83. Mom and Pop coffee shops. The kind that still have vinyl booths and look like they are trapped in 1966 are the best.
84. Restored Movie houses. The kind that have and organ a show a newsreel before the movie.
85. Old newsreels and educational films. Or filmstrips. Ding!
86. Defunct tourist attractions. Crazy former tributes to gators, or tikis or whatever. Relive their former glory on the internet.
87. Vintage style lettering. The kind you see on old movie posters, toys, ads, board games and more. Usually hand lettered.
88. Kitsch. That is if you don’t consider this whole list kitsch.
89. Iconic dead stars. Marilyn Monroe, James Dean, Elvis etc. If you are wondering why they are so iconic long after they are gone it’s because their heirs hired a law team that handles their image and make sure it is still in the public eye in the form of purses, clocks, underwear, and popcorn you can buy at places like Kmart and Big Lots. Now you know.
90. Less Iconic Dead stars. Their relatives maybe didn’t hire as good of lawyers but they were still really cool in their day.
91. Names you don’t hear so much anymore. Like Myrtle, Ethel, Strom, Huey, Milton, Royce, Edith, Midge, Harvey or Tex.
92. Music from before your time. Lounge, exotica, garden variety oldies, whatever.
93. The County Fair Head on over to your county fair this summer and get a slice of Americana. Do the midway, see a horse race, get some kettle corn, then hold your nose and head on over to the animal pavilions. Bring on those happy memories of reading Charlotte’s Web and realize that the patch of suburbia that holds the county fair hasn’t been an actual farming community since 1962, and most of the 4h kids in the community only joined to get in the fair for free so they could buy the wristband and ride the rides all day. (Or was that just me?) Then to end your night go see fair’s free Foghat concert.
94. The stuff they sell at the County fair. Spinning metal wind art for the patio, Infomercial crap galore, purses made from loud fabrics featuring wolves, ten gallon hats, olde tyme photos, airbrushed t-shirts, deep fried everything, Amish country funnel cakes, Mackinac Island Fudge, those Mexican poncho sweaters that were totally popular in 1992, purses made from beer cans or license plates, bad copyright infringement art airbrushed on your wolf purse, whatever!
95. Video Games. Or maybe this is just an excuse to go play World of Warcraft or Farmville.
96. Internet culture. Pwnd, memes, LOLcats, ninja cat, Nora the piano playing cat, keyboard cat, that squirrel who stares, Homestar Runner, numa numa guy, Susan Boyle, all your base belong to us, Men that look like old Lesbians, Men who look like Kenny Rogers, mullets, etc…Or you can go old school and log into Archie and Veronica or prodigy or compuserve. Whatever.
97. Nerds. Modern day nerds, revenge of the nerds, fifties nerds with horn rimmed glasses, kick me signs and propeller beanies, go ahead and embrace nerd culture.
98. Vintage Malls. Before every mall became exactly the same with the same stores they had their own personalities. Sometimes they would have amusement park rides on the roof other times they would have murals or fountains or giant mobiles.
99. Out of Date Technology. Get inspired by computers that take up entire rooms, adding machines the size of your desk, teletype machines, the Commodore Pet, The TI
99 4A, whatever floats your boat.
100. Up to Date Technology. Ipad, Iphone, etc. Yes you are richer and more connected than me. I get it.
101. Blogs and Websites with lists of things that will inspire you, but you won’t rip off. Especially this one. Come back at lot! Buy something awesome!

101 likely and not so likely sources of inspiration: Part 1
This list is for any creative types out there who are experiencing a block, be it writer’s block, designer’s block, songwriter’s block whatever. Get inspired. I am going to be putting it up in sections right here and once it’s complete I may give it a more permanent home.
There is a lot of humor inside so if you take yourself super seriously or have really bad taste in music it may not be the list for you.
1. Old board games. Get inspired by vintage boardgames. The older ones usually had really cool illustrations and often politically incorrect themes. Scary Natives in a deep dark jungles, Grow up to be a nurse or a teacher, Mom’s and Sis are washing the dishes while the Dad and son get to play battleship!
2. designer checks. What do people like enough to get printed on checks? Unicorns? Elvis, wolves? This could be a barometer of whats trendy with people who still actually use checks. (Like the person who is always always in front of me at Safeway. What @#$%ing century is it already!)
3. Old record sleeves. There are plenty of websites out there dedicated to old records, the weirder the better.
4. Old fads. Get inspired by 8 tracks, rubiks cubes, hula hoops, pogs, snap bracelets, hypercolor shirts, Chinese jumproping, sticker books, hot wheels, jelly shoes, Garbage Pail kids, wacky wallwalkers, madballs, disco, mighty morphin power rangers, rock em sock em robots, crocs, razor scooters, snuggies, or pogo balls.
5. Other people. Take a look at the people who have the guts to wear the two toned hairstyle up in a forties style along with pin up style dress and fishnet stockings. Or the girl with the long blond hair and the flowy skirt who does the hippie dance at every single concert even if it’s Metallica. Or the guy with the pompadour and 50’s nerd-chic glasses who found the Disneyland Maintenance workers shirt you have been looking for your whole life and is wearing it in public. (The front says Ed.)
6. Old print advertising. Get inspired by the vintage illustrations seen in old print ads. Or by the wackiness of defunct products, like those vibrating machines that were supposed to melt off pounds, and a diet candy called Ayds.
7. Old game show sets. Watch the game show network and be amazed at how something with loud Styrofoam cutouts of flowers and a Herb Alpert soundtrack could have been a hit it on national TV.
8. Vintage TV shows and Movies
9. TV shows set in another period. Mad Men is the most obvious current example. Also Freaks and Geeks, That 70’s etc. Sometimes they are really well done other times not so much.
10. Movies set in another period.
11. Public domain. Not only can stuff in the public domain inspire you but you are free to use it in your own work.
12. Old packaging. Usually more interesting than new packaging.
13. Punk. Modern punk or 70’s era punk your choice.
14. Steampunk
15. Any musical genre that ends in core. Pick your favorite, or the one that annoys you the least.
16. Book covers. Pulp fiction is an obvious one but you can find inspiration in almost any genre. Ancient textbooks, with 50’s style atoms on the covers, really cute vintage children’s books, old copies of Sweet Valley High, you never know when inspiration is going to strike.
17. Old yearbooks. Go ahead and laugh at the picture of your mom with the beehive then go tour own yearbook and look at that picture of you with the crunchy Jersey Girl bangs. Yearbooks are a great way to see an era from an everyday point of view.
18. Old cookbooks. Get inspired by weird recipes with nasty looking pictures in garish colors. Discover a shocking amount of jello mold recipes, and a make casserole out of something that should never ever be put into a casserole. Be sure to dump a whole can of cream of mushroom soup on top then remember that you hate mushrooms! Do all this while wearing a super cute vintage apron with a ruffle around it. (Even if you are a dude.)
19. Old fabrics. Old fabrics from the 50s are so cool. They are always full of things like fruitbowls, boomerangs, or scenes from Paris to match the wallpaper or the couch. My grandma had this great tablecloth that had an Italian restaurant theme. I don’t know whatever happened to it but I want it back.
20. Old appliances. How back in the day you could get a turquoise mixer or a pink toaster but now we usually can only choose between white, beige or black? Did the avocado era of the 70’s ruin it for everybody?

T-shrt of the day!
Count on Monte Christo
This one is an oldie but a goodie. Not unlike the classic sandwich. That 70’s show has mentioned it, Lorelai Gilmore has mocked it but once you have experienced the wonder and the glory of the delicious totally fried concoction known as the Monte Christo you will never forget it. It’s a lunchtime staple at the Blue Bayou, Disneyland’s best restaurant (unless you count Club 33, which Disneyland claims doesn’t exist!) So get into that N’awlins spirit and count on Monte Christo!
